Group Ride Saturday 9th March 2024
Group ride with Alec Gore and Neil Escott
We were 9 riders in all, starting from Costa, Winnall. There was a good mix of riders and bikes,
with two Associates. It was a cloudy morning with a few spatters early on, otherwise, it stayed
dry, with temperatures around 9-12 degrees, and the sun shining through by the end of the ride.
There was water and washout in places due to the recent extensive rains.
The route took A, B and C class roads. There were plenty of flowing NSL roads and several great
series of bends. Traffic was mainly quiet. I included a short section of single-track road between
North Waltham and Overton because it was worth it .
The ride between Overton and Kingsclere is always a favourite with fantastic views over
Watership Down.
The Honesty Cafe at The Base, Greenham Business Park is an excellent venue for a break. We took our time over coffee, pasties and cakes etc.
The return trip took us down the A343 to Hurstbourne Tarrant and then the Bourne Valley road, Sutton Scotney, Stoke Charity and Kings Worthy back to Wimmall. We made good progress and were back at Winnall before 1.00pm.
Thanks to Neil for taking care of the tail end and taking the photos.
Smiles all round at the end.
