Enhanced Rider Coaching
Passed the Advanced Rider Course?
What’s next?
So you passed the ARC - feels great doesn't it! But are you feeling like something good just came to an end - no more ride-outs with an Observer, no more challenge?
Do you wish to keep improving and challenging yourself?
Do you want to continue your Advanced riding journey?
Is there a skill you want to perfect?
Is the IAM Masters a standard that you aspire to?
Our Observers can help you reach your goal with the Enhanced Rider Coaching which sits neatly between the IAM Advanced Rider Course and the IAM Masters programme.
Alternatively, if there is a specific skill you want to improve on, or if you are targeting the IAM Masters as an ultimate goal, our National Observers can coach you using the
IPSGA model.
What can you expect?
The IAM RoadSmart Solent Enhanced Rider Coaching does not include a test as we aren’t looking to get you to a specific standard. Instead, we will coach you to keep improving in all aspects of riding until both Member and Observer agree that they have achieved their goal.
You may have a specific goal or skill that you wish to improve upon, or you may want to progress to the IAM Masters programme – pick the route that suits your current goal.
What is the coaching approach?
The Observed rides will be longer than the ARC sessions in order to stretch your ability to concentrate and focus. We will be looking to elevate your ride above ARC level towards excellent observation, error-free anticipation, early planning and clinical execution of every opportunity to make progress within the speed limits and without leaving a poor perception with other road users.
We aim to get you to ride with “quiet efficiency” such that, from start to finish, it is safe, smooth and systematic with appropriate use of speed throughout.
A running cost contribution of £20 to be paid by the Solent Member to the Observer for each session.
How can you tell if you’re improving?
You will recognise an improvement because you will be riding consistently for longer distances, it will have felt effortless and there would have been no surprises throughout the ride.
You will be able to recall the ride and self-critique what transpired on the road.
Our Observers will be open and honest with their feedback and through open questions get you to reflect on what has happened and recognise what you might have done differently. After each ride, you will receive a written appraisal of the quality of the ride and some development points as agreed during the debrief at the end of the session.
Interested?
If you want to continue building on your riding skills contact us and our Chief Observer, Andy will get in touch to discuss your goals, and will outline what to expect.
If you go ahead, you will be allocated one-to-one with a National Observer to help you with your continuous personal development along your Advanced riding journey.
