Group Ride Saturday 12th February 2024
Group ride with Alec Gore
10 riders left Wickham Square on Saturday morning for Alec's Level 2 ride to Goodwood. The weather was good, despite the cloudy start and one or two spatters, and brightened up during the day. Traffic was busy, which limited the ability to progress on some B roads.
We were forced to put in a diversion as police had closed the B2141 after South Harting, so we took the B2146 which is actually a very good road when it's not clogged with 40 mph drivers enjoying the scenery! Then we doubled back up through Walderton, Stoughton and East Marden to get back on the B2141 down to Lavant and Goodwood. An interesting road through some beautiful wooded scenery, but single-track with gravel and grass in the middle in places - more reminiscent of Nigel's rides than Alec's!
Goodwood was busy with a private event, not advertised in their website, which meant the Control Tower Cafe was unavailable. Fortunately, the Aerodrome Cafe was. We enjoyed table service and excellent bacon baps, not forgetting the one poached eggs and avacado on toast.
Welcome to your first group ride, Timur!
The return ride went via the A285 to Petworth and the A272 to Langrish, with a little single-track road diversion north around Midhurst to add interest to beat the Saturday midday traffic. From Langrish it was the lovely bends through East and West Meon and down the A32 to finish at Destination Triumph, a reminder that it's been two years since we did the route with about 100 bikes for the Triumph 120 Years Ride.
There were no incidents on the ride.
Thanks to Peter Callow for riding tail
